Steeple Scene

steeple seen so long ago
on this year’s maps
that steeple still shows
would you believe
everything that I'd be
hard livin’ like that
three years passed
she took em’ back
it was a little too real
in that wide-open field
shovels and stone
fingers and bone
baby still Loves me
the day after sunday
when the sun goes down
and that steeple stands out
is this one republic
or a double democracy
from city to city
and sea to sea
what I fear
is not really here…
